Product: Soil
Soil is one of the most important parts of the landscape
and therefore prominent in the resource-protection and resource-using - especially
in problems of buffer the pollutants like heavy metal, nitrate, …, problems
of water-producing (see: evaporation, recharge of ground water, …), of the agricultural
yield potential (soil erosion, "precision farming", …).
The aspects mentioned above need manifold area information
regarding the geo-factor "soil". Normally the information is taken out of soil
maps but there may be no soil maps of the area you are interested in or the
spatial resolution of the given soil map is insufficient or you need further
information than is contained in the conventional soil maps.
To help with these problems the scilands GmbH and associates
are developing "functional
soil maps".
Advantages (of our product: Soil):
- Regionalisation of a high amount of useful
soil characteristics
instead of complex genetical oriented soil maps you get a purposeful data
base to handle specifics as soil erosion risk assessment or recharge of ground
water.
- To value the available data
We value the "basic data" to
minimise the expenses of doing field work.
- Regionalising soil characteristics as a continuum
Because the soil characteristics vary with smooth transitions we model the
soil characteristics as a continuum represented by metric grid data. (Whereas
conventional soil maps work with boundaries.) The specific (application) classification
(for the user) will be the result. usually conventional maps prematurely classify
the soil-relevant geo-factors and therefore are often inexact.
- Inductive methods
In contrast to conventional soil maps being deductive and therefore mostly
subjective our soil regionalisation is highly inductive because of the quantative
application as explained above.
Our product " Soil" subdivide as follows:
- Functional soil maps
practicable interpretation for specific questions
- Soil maps concerning ground water
Regionalisation of soil water balance (surface flow, ground humidity (soil
moisture), recharge of ground water)
- Soil maps concerning soil erosion
Regionalisation of soil erosion risk assessment
- Soil maps concerning filter-quality of the
ground
Estimation of the endanger of nitrate washing-out
- Soil maps concerning the soil physics, e.g. soil
texture
Regionalisation of granulometric composition, to estimate the water permeability
and the rooting dephts
- Soil maps concerning soil chemistry
Estimation of cation exchange capacity
