Company Profile

Firmenprofil

"scilands GmbH - Gesellschaft zur Bearbeitung digitaler Landschaften" is an innovative company (founded 1998) based in university city Göttingen, Germany.

The company unites geographical as well as geoecological landscape analysis with modern computing/data processing(DP)-aided techniques. For our clients we elaborate individually tailored and practice-oriented solutions for landscape-related or geoscientific questions.

Scilands GmbH combines current research findings in science as well as praxis-generated knowledge/empirical value in problem-solving to the best outcome/result.

We provide comprehensive support for our client’s tasks; large-area (field) mapping and landscape evaluation/assessment, assembling/construction of geoscientific information systems, simulation of landscape- and ecology-based processes and many more.

For one thing, we inset common established computing/data processing(DP)-aided proceedings such as GIS and image processing. For another thing, we provide innovative solutions for landscape analysis based on in-house/our own development activities or developments in cooperation with geoscientific research facilities and universities.

Among others we are experienced in evaluation of digital terrain models for over 20 years.

For this purpose and to solve landscape and ecology related questions we apply the software SAGA (System for Automated Geoscientific Analyses), which was developed in collaboration with the Geographic Institute of the University of Hamburg. SAGA opens up several possibilities, which cannot be covered/achieved by conventional software.

Our longstanding partners/employees have many years of experience and in-depth expertise in following fields:
  • work experience in scientific and computing/data processing(DP)-aided area of physical geography and landscape analysis and its neighbouring disciplines, geomorphology, pedology/ soil science, remote sensing, climatology, geology, hydrology, botany and cartography
  • knowledge of programming languages (C, C++, Python, as well as FORTRAN and Pascal) on the operating systems MS-Windows, Linux and VMS
  • process and software development, particularly in the area of automatic relief analysis and raster/grid-oriented Regionalization of geoscientific information
  • Geographical Information Systems (in particular SAGA, QGIS, GRASS and IDRISI)
  • graphic data processing (including image processing)
  • Training courses and education in the field of physical geography and geoinformatics
  • Projects in cooperation with German federal authority, regional authorities of geology, land surveying office, universities, research facilities, planning office, i.a.
  • scientific publications, lectures and presentations at fairs and conference
